LEAN ON
At times of crisis, people are often worried on what to do next and where to go, especially when they are asked to leave the comforts of their home for the purpose of safety. Will there be a place to stay? If yes, will it be suitable enough to accommodate the people but be a barrier between safety and harm as well? The Lean On was designed to not only bring comfort but to be that barrier. Designed to be sustainable and promote new norms in post pandemic society.
The Lean On is built to comfortably accommodate one person and allow them to do their daily practices inside without having to feel uncomfortable and suffocated by the small space. It also aims to promote sanitation in times of pandemics. Upon entering the Pandemic Responsive Prototype Shelter the user is welcomed by a sanitation room where in the user can remove all things that could possibly be contaminated. Then the user can then go straight to the bathroom where they can shower and continue the sanitation process. After the bathroom another door leads to the main living space. This allows proper sanitation and prevention of virus and bacteria from the outside to enter in to the main living space. It also has a combined kitchen and working area situated at the front of the house while the bedroom is situated at the back of the house to provide more privacy to the user.
The Lean On is constructed using wood and masonry to allow easy access to materials and lesser time for construction. It is also provided with adequate windows to give proper ventilation and allow natural light to enter and lessen the use of artificial light during day time. It is equipped with solar panels to sustain the electricity and Rain water collectors to lessen the use of water in order to promote an environmentally friendly home.
